Many have rocky edge formations above them. Outside of Cancun we find Tulum, a unique site where you can go for a swim in turquoise waters and visit the famous ruins of Mayan civilizationCancun has lots to offer. With its mix of tropical beaches, ancient ruins and modern resorts, this area is simply the perfect vacation destination for everyone. About the destination: Playa del Carmen was originally a small fishing village south of Cancun, but in the last years it has transformed into a bustling tourist resort. It is one of the most colorful and diverse towns on the Mayan Riviera. Playa del Carmen offers balmy tropical breezes, world class food, good night life, amazing ruins, endless beaches, incredible snorkeling, wonderful parks, friendly people and so much more. And it is as mellow or as wild as you'd like it to be. Playa del Carmen is a great base for exploring all of the interesting places on the Mayan Riviera and the Yucatan peninsula. The island Cozumel, which offers some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world, it's just a short boat ride away. The site of Chichén Itzá is 3 hours away, but it's definitely worth the trip! Although touristy Playa del Carmen is captivating and picturesque, full of small and charming Mexican shops and restaurants. This little city has so much to offer if you want it.

About the destination: Punta Cana is the name of a region in the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic. Covering about 420,000 m2, the region is home to a coastline of sandy white beaches and to a "town" of the same name. Located in the province of La Altagracia and population estimated at 100,000, the region borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east. To the north, it borders Bávaro and El Cortecito beaches. It also limits with Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño and further west with Juanillo. Despite the area being fairly deserted, the proximity of Punta Cana to other major resort areas such as Bávaro and Uvero Alto make the town one of the top Caribbean destinations.
