Biarritz France

Biarritz is a well-known holiday spot situated in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of Aquitaine, France. Nestled on the Bay of Biscay along the Atlantic coast in southwestern France, Biarritz is close to Bayonne and Anglet and just 18 km from the Spanish border. With 6 km of beaches, Biarritz is a favoured summer holiday destination. Its beaches are noted for their fine sand and abundant seaweed, which enriches the water with iodine, known for its health benefits. These beneficial properties of the water contribute to the popularity of Biarritz's resorts. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS La Grande Plage La Grande Plage is the town's main beach, beloved by both tourists and locals. It was once called the “Côte des Fous” (coast of the crazy) due to the many “sick” people who visited for the healing properties of the waters. Located in the heart of Biarritz, it is conveniently close to shopping areas, bars, and restaurants. The Rock of the Virgin The Rock of the Virgin is linked to the mainland by a bridge commissioned by Napoleon III. This bridge spans the water and partially cuts through the rock, which was carved out. Known as the Eiffel Bridge, it was named after the architect Gustave Eiffel, the same man who designed the Eiffel Tower. From the end of the rock, you can enjoy some of the finest views of Biarritz. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the mountains in the Spanish Basque Country. Fishermen Port Built in 1870 for inshore fishermen, this port now serves mainly as a charming spot for tourists, as most of the fishermen have moved on. The picturesque fishermen’s houses host a variety of restaurants. If you're looking to enjoy fresh fish or seafood, this is undoubtedly the best place to do so.
