Alcobaca Portugal

Alcobaça is a city and a municipality located in the Oeste Subregion, Centro region of Portugal, previously a part of the Estremadura Province. The city of Alcobaça gained prominence after the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, chose to construct a church to honor the Conquest of Santarém from the Moors in 1147. This church eventually developed into the Monastery of Alcobaça, one of the country's most impressive gothic structures. Over the years, this monastery has significantly influenced Portuguese culture. To the west of Alcobaça lies the fishing village of Nazaré, which is now a popular tourist destination. To the south, you'll find the city of Caldas da Rainha and the medieval town of Óbidos. Additionally, to the northeast is the town of Porto de Mós, known for its restored castle.
