Pamplona Spain

The ancient capital of Navarra, a medieval kingdom with Basque origins, transforms dramatically for the Fiesta de San Fermín, also known as the Running of the Bulls, Spain's most exuberantly celebrated festival and Pamplona's main draw. However, Pamplona offers many other intriguing activities and sights for visitors, as it is the first major city on the St. James's Trail. Pamplona boasts a stunning medieval city center, a remarkable citadel, numerous museums, excellent wines and cuisine, and abundant green spaces. Pamplona's citadel is exceptionally well-preserved and is one of the finest examples of Renaissance fortification in Europe. Enclosed by a vast park, it currently hosts art exhibitions and occasional cultural events, particularly during the summer. The Plaza del Castillo is the city's main square, home to numerous bars and cafes, the Teatro Principal, and the Navarra council's headquarters. The Museo de Navarra, located in the old town area of Santo Domingo near the start of the famous bull run, exhibits a collection of altarpieces and religious artwork from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The city's primary religious structure is the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria La Real, which blends a neoclassical façade with a Gothic interior. Pamplona's rich history and monuments make it an incredibly appealing city. The city's two universities contribute to its vibrant and cultural atmosphere.
