About the destination: The Metropolitan City of Catania is a metropolitan city located in Sicily, in the southern part of Italy. The city of Catania serves as its capital. It took the place of the Province of Catania and includes the city of Catania along with 57 other municipalities (comuni). The creation of the Metropolitan City was initially brought about by a reform of local authorities (Law 142/1990) and was later established by a regional law on August 15, 2015. The Metropolitan City shares borders with the Metropolitan City of Messina (previously known as the Province of Messina), the Province of Enna, the Province of Syracuse, the Province of Ragusa, and the Province of Caltanissetta. A portion of its territory encompasses the Metropolitan area of Catania. The Metropolitan City is situated with the Ionian Sea to its east, the Metropolitan City of Messina to its north, the Province of Enna and the Province of Caltanissetta to its west, and the Province of Siracusa and the Province of Ragusa to its south. Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, is found within the province.

Agrigento is renowned for its Valley of the Temples, the most well-preserved Greek ruins outside of Greece. The city boasts a stunning old town center and holds significant historical and architectural value. The Valley of the Temples is among the most crucial archaeological sites globally, and in 1997, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is one of the most enchanting sites in the Mediterranean. The temples, about a dozen of them, built in 5 BC, are situated on a ridge south of the town. Back in the city, navigate the labyrinth of narrow alleys, squares, and side-streets, visit the Norman Duomo of Saint Gerlando, the Church of Santa Maria dei Greci constructed on the steps of a Greek temple, and the Church and Convent of Santo Spirito where you can sample almond sweets made by the local Cistercian cloister nuns. The magnificent Doric monuments, the deep blue sky, the healthy climate, and the unparalleled view make Agrigento a desirable place where a lengthy stay is delightful.
