Geographically in the Chumphon Archipelago, it is part of Surat Thani Province, though as of 2012, Ko Samui was granted Municipality status and thus is now locally self-governing. About the destination: The Phi Phi Islands are located in Thailand, situated between the large island of Phuket and the western coast of the Strait of Malacca on the mainland. Ko Phi Phi Don is the biggest island in the group and also the most populated. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - Hin Khao Beach. - Laem Thong. - Lanti Beach. Lanti Beach is quite similar in many aspects with its stunning landscape and coral reefs. - Monkey Beach. You can reach this beach by foot, by renting a canoe, or by chartering a longtail boat. - Loh Samah Bay. This is a U-shaped bay on the western coast of the island. It features a large rock in the center, a small beach, and tiny caves at the end of a very narrow gorge. - Maya Bay. Maya Bay arguably boasts Phi Phi’s most spectacular beach. - Phaya Naak Cave. This cave contains prehistoric paintings. - Ko Pai (Bamboo Island). The north and east sides of this island have sandy beaches. - Ko Yung. This island, located just north of Ko Phi Phi Don, has a rocky beach and some coral.
