1. Reykjavik
Stay
About the destination: Reykjavik is not your average capital city; it lacks grandiose buildings, a historical city center, or majestic monuments. However, this city offers so much more. Iceland's capital is unique, vibrant, and closely connected to nature. Its location on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, nestled between two fjords and encircled by a lunar-like volcanic landscape, gives the city, whose name translates to "Bay of Smokes," an unparalleled charm. As the world's northernmost capital, Reykjavik is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. With the sea as its backdrop, whale watching is a favorite tourist activity. The city is abundant with open spaces, including parks, pedestrian zones, a lake adjacent to the city hall, and Nauthólsvik geothermal beach, just a 15-minute journey from the city center. The city boasts seven municipal geothermal pools where locals gather to socialize and unwind after work. Other activities such as cycling, hiking, horseback riding, sailing, and fishing can all be enjoyed within the city's vicinity. Beyond its natural wonders, Reykjavik always has something to offer. It's a cosmopolitan and dynamic city filled with museums, art galleries, and quaint coffee shops. Its nightlife is thrilling and wild, with locals seemingly making up for the beer prohibition that lasted until 1989, and venues often staying open until the early morning hours. During the day, the capital exudes a more relaxed vibe, with its neat, colorful houses, litter-free streets, and leisurely pace of life. Reykjavik is recognized as one of the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities globally. Navigating this city is nearly foolproof: the Hallgrímskirkja church and Öskjuhlíð hill are visible from most parts of the city center and serve as key landmarks for orientation. Reykjavik is dynamic, creative, modern, cozy, and truly special. Its unique character and captivating surroundings will convince you that there's no better city in the world.

About the destination: Akureyri is a town located in the northern part of Iceland. It holds the distinction of being Iceland's second largest urban area and the fourth largest municipality. Often referred to as the Capital of North Iceland, Akureyri serves as a significant port and fishing hub. Akureyri is a visually appealing town, situated by a picturesque fjord, featuring a mix of architectural styles and streets that meander through gorges. Take some time to explore the town center, where you can see the impressive church and Listagilið (literally "the art canyon"), which houses a variety of arts and crafts galleries and shops. 3. Tromsø
Stay
About the destination: Tromso serves as the administrative, commercial, and educational hub of northern Norway. It ranks as the seventh largest city in Norway in terms of population and houses the world's northernmost university, brewery, and botanical garden. The city is situated approximately 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, experiencing both the midnight sun and polar night. Tromsø is renowned as one of the prime locations in Europe to witness the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. The city's stunning cathedral, one of the largest wooden churches in Norway, is nestled in the heart of the city in a quaint square adorned with intriguing statues and sculptures. A stroll down Storgatan leads to the marketplace, filled with the soothing sounds of music and the enticing aroma of coffee, fresh bread, and strawberries. The Tromso museum showcases ethnographic exhibits highlighting the unique cultures of Lapland. Adjacent to it, the Polar Museum displays exhibits narrating the history of the Arctic region, focusing on the lives of early hunters, trappers, and explorers. Tromsdalen Kirke, colloquially known as the “Arctic Cathedral”, is not actually a cathedral, but the parish church of the Tromsøysund area of Tromso. Constructed in 1965 primarily from concrete, its design resembles slabs of ice. The church stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Tromsø. Tromso is a compact, welcoming, and vibrant town, beautifully situated on an island. The city boasts an abundance of restaurants, pubs, clubs, and theaters to entertain both locals and tourists. Tromso is undoubtedly the cultural heart of northern Norway.

4. Kiruna
Stay
About the destination: Kiruna is the northernmost and the largest town in Swedish Lapland. It is located about 145 km north of the Arctic Circle, making it possible to experience the midnight sun and polar night there. It is home of the famous Ice Hotel, which changes its looks every year as it is rebuilt by different artists each year. Kiruna Kyrka is a beautiful building and has won prizes for being Sweden's most beautiful building and its tower is artistically adorned. It is one of Sweden's largest wooden buildings and is famous for its special tent like structure. The city hall of Kiruna was inaugurated in 1963. It was once elected as the most beautiful building by Swedish Architects. It houses the local government and often hosts various exhibitions. It also has a small but quite well renowned art collection of famous Swedish artists. In the summertime you can visit the LKAB Iron Mine. You'll descend 540 metres into earth and you will learn about the life at the mine. Kiruna is a perfect base to explore the wilderness and scenery of northern Lapland, including Sweden's highest mountain, Kebnekaise. There are several national parks all within easy reach from the city, including Abisko National Park, one of the most beautiful places in Sweden. Kiruna is a place of contrasts, where the summer sun shines for almost two full months without setting, while the polar night lowers its dark blue blanket over the area for the last three weeks of December. The contrasts are seen also in other ways, for here we find the ancient Saami Lappish crafts and ways, existing side by side with the high-tech that has made Kiruna a unique European research centre.
