Stay
About the destination: Kuala Lumpur is situated at the meeting point of the Kelang and Gombak rivers and is the capital city of Malaysia and the commercial, economic, financial and cultural hub of the country. 3. Denpasar
Stay
About the destination: Known as the Island of the Gods, Bali has been enticing sun worshippers, divers, surfers and those seeking spirituality for decades. The landscape is vibrant and overwhelming, a complete array of volcanic mountains, lush jungle, white sand beaches and emerald green rice fields waiting for you to explore. Spend your days engaging in sports and visiting places, or succumb to the leisurely pace and exceptional beauty of this Indian Ocean island. Expansive, bustling and continually growing, Bali's capital has been the centre of much of the island's development and wealth over the past five decades. It may seem an intimidating and chaotic place, but spend a little time on its tree-lined streets in the relatively affluent government and business district of Renon and you'll uncover a more refined side. Denpasar may not be a tropical paradise, but it's as much a part of 'the real Bali' as the rice paddies and clifftop temples. This is the hub of the island for more than one million locals and here you will find their shopping centres and parks. Most enticing, however, are the authentic restaurants and cafes aimed at the burgeoning middle class.

6. Lampang
Stay
About the destination: The delightful capital known for its horse-drawn carriages and the province with the stable of real white elephants at the Elephant Conservation Centre in Thailand share the same name. Most travellers simply visit Lampang to see the Elephant Conservation Centre in Thailand, without stopping in the city en route to Chiang Mai and other provinces further north. The Centre is undoubtedly a must-see tourist attraction, but those who visit the capital are generally surprised by the rather unusual charm of Lampang. Known for its horse-drawn carriages, the emblem of the province is the cockerel (the bird has a large monument in its honour in the centre of the city) and its history is endowed with a series of human settlements in the Wang River basin, some of which date back more than 1,000 years. In fact, in Lampang there are abundant archaeological remains of the kingdoms of Hariphunchai, Lanna, and Burma. The horse and cart, a local mode of transport that has survived the introduction of cars in the province, is a fun way to explore the city, which has numerous attractions such as its beautiful Buddhist temples, a good range of bars and restaurants on the riverbanks and the hospitality and kindness of its population, characteristic of Thailand. The statue of the cockerel, visible all the way, is the oldest symbol of Lampang and its origins go back to the old name of the city, Kukutthanakorn or "City of Cockerels". A local legend tells that a white cockerel was sent by the Brahmin god Indra to awaken the local inhabitants and that they could give alms to Buddha, who supposedly visited the city. On the road from Lampang to Chiang Mai is the Elephant Conservation Centre in Thailand, the oldest and only Government-supported Centre in Thailand, where the king's white elephants are housed and visitors can learn more about them and see the shows that are presented to the public on a regular basis.

Stay
About the destination: Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in the Asian country of Thailand. Its summit rises at 2565 meters above sea level. It is located in the district of Mae Chaem, Chiang Mai Province, in the north of the country, within the national park that bears his name. The mountain was known in the past as Doi Luang Ang Ka, which means Great Mountain of the Crow Bath, since near the base of the mountain there was a pond where many crows gathered. The current name Doi Inthanon was given in honor of King Inthawichayanon, seventh king of Chiang Mai. Doi Inthanon is part of a mountain range that separates Burma from Thailand, known as Thanon Thong Chai Mountain Range.
